Our Dry Docking Capabilities

SSM primarily utilises the Australian Marine Complex (AMC) Common User Facility (CUF) for dry dock repair. We do, however, have access to several other ship repair yards should you prefer a different solution. The AMC CUF floating dock boasts the following specifications:

  • Length Overall: 102.3 meters

  • Width Inside Sidewalls: 44.0 meters

  • Maximum Allowable Vessel Draft: 9.2 meters

  • Lifting Capacity: 12,000 tonnes

To further enhance our efficiency, SSM has expanded our dry docking encapsulation from 35 meters to 55 meters. This gives us capacity for double docking.

These capabilities allow us to accommodate a diverse range of vessels, from tugboats to larger commercial ships.

Why Go With Dry Docking?

Dry docking offers efficient vessel maintenance, allowing for thorough inspections, repairs and preventative works while ensuring compliance with relevant standards. At Silverstar Marine, we leverage dry docking to deliver reliable, cost-effective solutions to our clients. Some of the benefits include:

  • Increased Operational Efficiency: Dry docking allows for full hull inspections, propulsion system servicing and structural repairs in a controlled environment. This ensures vessels return to service in peak condition, improving fuel efficiency and overall performance.

  • Cost Savings and Long-Term Durability: Preventative maintenance, such as hull cleaning, anti-fouling applications and corrosion control, helps reduce long-term repair costs. Addressing these issues in dry dock prevents costly breakdowns and minimises any unexpected downtime.

  • Safety and Compliance: The activities carried out during dry docking keep vessels in line with safety standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Adaptability for Time-Sensitive Bookings: The controlled dry docking environment allows for swift repairs. We have proven experience in delivering rapid turnaround times while maintaining high standards of repair and service.

The benefits are only greater when we utilise our double-docking capability, servicing two vessels simultaneously to reduce waiting times and optimise workflow. This allows us to accommodate more projects while providing flexible scheduling options for clients.

Dry Docking in Practice: Svitzer ‘Bunbury’

Dry docking offers efficient vessel maintenance, allowing for thorough inspections, repairs and preventative works while ensuring compliance with relevant standards. At Silverstar Marine, we leverage dry docking to deliver reliable, cost-effective solutions to our clients. Some of the benefits include:

In January 2025, SSM successfully completed a time-sensitive maintenance project for Svitzer’s tug, ‘Bunbury.’

Utilising our expanded dry docking capacity and implementing a 24/7 work schedule, we achieved a record turnaround time, completing the project in 36 days—six days ahead of the expected duration. This accomplishment underscores our ability to deliver tailored solutions that meet stringent operational demands.
