A Tight Window Between Contracts

Svitzer operates a fast-paced operation and their vessels follow strict schedules. When they required maintenance for one of their tugs, they faced a significant challenge—finding a solution that would fit within the short period between operational contracts.

Any delays in the maintenance process would see Svitzer Bunbury unable to meet service commitments, potentially affecting other clients and fleet efficiency. A prolonged dry docking period was not an option.

Our Dry Docking Solution

Svitzer needed a ship repair provider that could handle the project within an extremely tight timeframe while ensuring all work was carried out to the highest standard.

Understanding the constraints of their schedule, the SSM team got to work planning a streamlined maintenance process that also accommodated our previously scheduled works. There were two main elements to our solution:

  • Double Docking Capacity: With our expanded dry docking capabilities, we were able to accommodate the vessel without disrupting our other ongoing projects. Vice versa, our previously scheduled works had no effect on our efficiency repairing Svitzer Bunbury.
  • 24/7 Working Schedule: We worked around the clock, coordinating a 24/7 works schedule with our staff and contractors to maintain efficiency at every stage.

Works like these would normally take a minimum of 42 days. Utilising these capabilities, we were able to cut at least 6 days off that time and have Svitzer Bunbury ship-shape in 36 days.

The success of this project was made possible through a combination of advanced planning, experienced personnel and our upgraded docking facilities. The swift execution of the works ensured that Svitzer Bunbury was ready for its contract without any setbacks.
