Silverstar Marine has secured a contract to manage the repairs of two (2) 120m barges for Cape Preston Port Company (CPPC), a subsidiary of CITIC Pacific Mining who are developing the Sino Iron project.
The massive Sino Iron project is being developed at Cape Preston, 100 kilometres south west of Karratha in Western Australia’s Pilbara region. It is the largest magnetite mining and processing operation under construction in Australia. The Sino Iron project is focused on delivering a world class magnetite iron ore development which will add value to the Western Australian economy through significant downstream processing, employment, community benefits and international technology transfer while balancing social and environmental considerations.
Silverstar Marine’s scope covers the on-site project management of all contractors, including scaffolding, cranage, steel fabrication/welding, painting and final survey authority approval of the work completed. All work is to conducted at CPPC’s port facilities at Cape Preston, WA. The first barge started mid May 2012 and will run for approximately four (4) weeks with the second barge due to start later in the year and completed in a similar time frame.
